Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material, which are bonded to the front of teeth. Veneers can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed to mask discolorations, to brighten teeth, and to improve a smile. They can also restore chipped or worn teeth, close spaces, and lengthen teeth. Highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea or even red wine, the wafer-thin porcelain veneers can achieve a tenacious bond to the tooth, resulting in a natural and long lasting enhancement.

Bonding is used commonly to describe placement of composite fillings. A composite resin is a tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Introduced in the 1960s, dental composites were confined to the front teeth because they were not strong enough to withstand the pressure and wear generated by the back teeth. Since then, composites have been significantly improved and are now used on back teeth as well. They are not only used to restore decayed areas, but composite resins are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth. Bonding is an excellent dental solution for chipped teeth, uneven gums, gum recession, and filling in spaces.
Implant technology has improved so significantly that it has become the first choice in replacing missing teeth caused by aging, injury, excessive wear, congenital defects, or periodontal disease. Dental implants are one of the most predictable and successful procedures performed in dentistry today. Most people who undergo an implant procedure don’t feel any difference between their implants and their natural teeth. What they do notice is the remarkable ability to enjoy crunchy, crispy foods, smile with confidence, laugh without fear, speak freely and enjoy a long term restoration without compromise. Once in place, implants maintain function and aesthetics better than other alternatives. Come in to discuss how modern implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth.

A crown is a restoration that covers or “caps” a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth. Crowns are necessary when a tooth is generally broken down and fillings won’t solve the problem. If a tooth is cracked, a crown holds the tooth together to splint the cracks so the damage doesn’t worsen. Crowns are also used to support a large filling when there isn’t enough of the tooth remaining, attach a bridge, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, or cover badly shaped or discolored teeth.
At North Seattle Dental we don’t use metal amalgam (silver) fillings due to health risks associated with the mercury and also because tooth colored composite fillings look and function better.
