Your Comfort Is Important
Don't worry, we're here to help! Our staff and doctors are aware of the special needs some patients may experience, such as anxiety, stress or extreme sensitivity.
Sedation dentistry is used to help enhance a patient’s comfort and reduce any anxiety related to receiving dental care. This sedation dentistry may involve mild to moderate sedation. We have several options for “conscious sedation”
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous Oxide is a good choice for patients who are a little anxious about their dental appointment. It helps patients relax, giving them a “floating” feeling, often accompanied with a mild tingling and numb feeling in the finger tips and lips. Its effects resolve immediately after stopping use, allowing patients to recover very quickly and drive home after the appointment.
Oral Sedation
This anesthesia option is a great option for patients who may be anxious about their dental treatment and may want an extra level of comfort.
Oral sedation can be used for any dental procedure if the patient chooses. With this option, we can perform more procedures in one appointment saving you time and worry.
A prescription for medication is given before the day of treatment. Doses are recommended depending on the patient, but often include taking one dose the night before the appointment, another dose 1 hr prior to the appointment, and possibly another dose during the appointment depending on the patient.
With this option, a relaxing level of sedation is achieved and the patient is relaxed but awake during the appointment.
A patient choosing this option will require another person to accompany them to the appointment who can drive them to and from the appointment and watch over them until they are completely recovered.
We understand a significant barrier to dental care is fear. This is more common than most people realize and can be intense for some. Many people experience dental anxiety or even severe dental phobia.
